I really need to dig out my sketching pencils or my conte crayons, as I keep observing interesting negative spaces. For the past several days, it has been the absence of object or the space between objects (negative space) that has caught my eye.
Just try it sometime…drawing the negative space rather than the object and you will quickly see what I mean. Studying the negative space tends to give me a new perspective on an object and even stimulates the creative juices in other realms.
For example, at the office, I began to sketch the negative space triangulated between my coffee mug handle, metal water bottle, and soda can. That small sketching, on the back side of a used yellow post-it note, finally stimulated the words I needed for my technical report to describe the electrical system of a property that I am assessing.
Art saved my work day!
D00d…you are my favourite nerd evah!
