i might…

…..be addicted to this blogging thing.  I just looked back and realized that I posted…what…four entries on Thanksgiving before Dave had even awakened, meaning I was feeding and fielding Freya, AND cooking, AND blogging.  geesh.

The December theme for National Blog Posting Month is Thanks!  This can be interpreted any way that you like (for those of you other bloggers out there reading this, you do NOT have to stay on-theme, it is just a suggestion to get you thinking).
My plan is to attempt to blog daily as usual, but [...]

i cannot believe it

This morning, as always on weekend mornings, Freya awoke at 6 am, and these days, that is before sunrise.  As I donned my glasses and headed to her room in an attempt to convince her that it was not yet morning and that she needed to sleep a little longer, I noted an eery, bright [...]

a victorian christmas

The Friday after Thanksgiving is an official paid holiday at my office.  Maybe it’s because our corporate offices are in the outskirts of Boston, home area of Thanksgiving, or maybe they just figure we need the extra day (oh how I wish we had either December 24th or 26th off instead!).  Either way, it’s a [...]

As always, Freya loves having Gwen visit.  After a busy day on Sunday, they started to settle down to watch a movie and were almost asleep.

monkey see, monkey do

Freya decided it would be nice to make her OWN Thanksgiving dinner this morning while I was working on the real one.  So, she set the kitchen table the way she wanted it (including brightly colored trays and pink forks) and then grabbed some fake strawberries and chicken legs and “cooked” them in my muffin [...]

it’s too early

…for exterior Christmas lights.  I understand putting them on your house while the weather is still tolerable, but by no means should they be plugged in nightly until after Thanksgiving, preferably not until December 1.  I have a lot of neighbors that have had them up and lit every night for well over a week.  [...]

the german dinner menu

We hosted a little dinner party Saturday night and our food theme was German Oktoberfest.  It worked out pretty well I think, and it was not so preparation-intensive that I couldn’t do some socializing while finishing it up.
-Bochwurst
-Knockwurst
-Bratwurst
-Sauerkraut
-Red cabbage salad
-Carrot Salad
-Apple Sauce
-Sliced pickled red beets
-Spaetzle
-German potato salad

product endorsements

I’ve found a few things products lately that really make me stand back and say “wow–that’s awesome!”
First, there is my stainless steel coffee carafe.  My newest coffee maker has no warming burner, rather, the carafe is thermal-insulated.  I made coffee this morning, about 6 hours ago now, and when I went to empty the last [...]
